OUR MISSION

Our mission is to champion and support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the healthcare industry by bringing to market work attire that meets both safety and cultural requirements and, as a result, creates a more welcoming environment for healthcare workers, their patients, and their families. We believe that by doing so we will dramatically improve workplace conditions, productivity, and health outcomes.

ABOUT US

Mawadda's founders, Yasmin, and Firaoli are first-generation black Muslim women and respiratory therapists who have many years of experience in hospitals across the country, including on the front lines of the pandemic. They have experienced firsthand the frustration, worry, and loss of productivity caused by the lack of viable personal protective equipment for Muslim women. They bring that expertise and vision to Mawadda and its launch product, the Hygienic Hijab.

Mawadda provides a disposable hijab referred to as ‘Hygienic Hijab’, a patented, FDA compliant, eco-friendly, proprietary design derived from extensive user testing. The hygienic Hijab was designed to better protect against exposure and spread of infectious diseases via antimicrobial, disposable, easy-to-wear isolation hijab covers— with comfort and support. It is manufactured in the U.S. with a specially spunbond fiber that breathes and fits easily over an existing hijab or can be worn alone. It meets safety and Hijabi religious standards, and in a soft launch, feedback users say that it looks good and feels great.

The Hygenic Hijab appropriately meets hijabi standards and safety standards because it was designed by Muslim healthcare workers. That expertise and background assisted and aided in creating very well-thought-out tailoring for the disposable hijab. In comparison to the competitors, users would not be offended nor disrespected and would see that time and research were put into the development of the product.

With the 'Hygienic Hijab', Mawadda will be able to champion and provide diversity, inclusion, and infection prevention in the hospital's work attire. This will also increase patient satisfaction and create a more welcoming environment for customers, and healthcare workers overall.

Thank you and please feel free to email us with any questions, we are happy to answer.

Scenario- example: As Muslim women and healthcare workers we know how important the design and the fabric are to users. When working in a hospital setting with a patient there is a lot of movement involved for example when moving a patient or during CPR. So we need a design that doesn't move and fits correctly as that shouldn't be something to focus on---we can therefore focus on our work efficiently. Also, breathability is something important to many people, especially in a 6-hour surgery as you should feel comfortable at work and not worry about passing out as a result of the material not being breathable.

Market Validation section:

“This is an amazing innovation and representation that we need. I’m happy to know that Muslim women healthcare workers are behind the making of this.

The fit, color, and comfort was all designed perfectly. The material is really soft and doesn’t feel hot. I can’t wait to have this accessible to us in the hospitals.”

— Halima, RN

“I was very impressed with the product during the soft launch. This hijab actually fit my hair bun!

It gave me [better] protection than a hair net which [normally] exposes my regular day-to-day hijab.” — Nahili, RN
